Document Service

Agrovoc

The Document Production Service allows subscribers to produce many of the documents commonly used in transportation, import and export activities. We have coded these documents to allow them to be produced using the data that you have collected. You identify the transaction, choose the activity and then choose the document from a list of those currently supported. These can be printed locally, faxed or emailed in PDF format directly from the service.

In addition to the actual document production, the data elements of these forms can be converted into the local language of the form or one selected from a list. Language support is provided via an Agricultural Ontology Lookup Service that is incorporated within the package. The Ontology was compiled by the Agricultural Ontology Service (AOS) which is a project run by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and The World Agricultural Information Centre(WAICENT).

Use of the Ontology service is free but there is a small charge for the document production portions to cover the basic networking and coding costs involved.

Currently the following languages are supported:

  • Arabic
  • Chinese
  • Czech
  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Hindi
  • Hungarian
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Lao
  • Persian
  • Polish
  • Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Slovak
  • Spanish
  • Thai

This is a pretty basic demo but we are now integrating this service with a proxy server allowing the available term translations to be highlighted in any docs displayed. You may then perform either an automatic (full page) or manual (word by word) translation.

The Document Service functionality is provided by the COHSE and openCalais projects and uses the Agrovoc Owl ontologies for term translation and substitution. We are anticipating full implementation by the end of March 2010.
